FAQ'S

Elderberry and Honey Tonic:

Serving size and how often to take?

Adults take 1 tbsp per day and children take 1 tsp. Remember, this is a food product so my daughter has been known to take up to 3 oz a day when needed. Just like you can’t eat too many blueberries, you can’t take too much elderberry tonic. But at the same time, a little goes a long way and the serving sizes above are sufficient. You may also take the elderberry every two hours as desired or needed.

How to consume?

Many of our customers take their daily dose straight up in a shot glass since our elderberry tastes so delicious. It tastes great added to fruit juice, soda water, or even in a margarita! We like to add some to our yogurt, smoothies and oatmeal too! You can buy popsicle molds and easily make elderberry popsicles by mixing water and elderberry together and freezing, addie eats at least one elderberry popsicle a day.

Can my baby take elderberry tonic?

Children under one year of age should not consume honey, which is an ingredient in our tonic. I started Addie on our tonic at one year. Prior to one year you can utilize our elderberry tonic DIY dry kit and use maple syrup, monk fruit or agave as a sweetener for your little one.

Will elderberry interact with my medication or condition?

Elderberry is a food and is generally safe and well tolerated. However, we always recommend working directly with your medical doctor if you are pregnant, nursing, on medication you are concerned about or have an autoimmune disease.

How many servings are in the bottle?

There are 32 servings in our bottle if you are taking one tbsp a day. If you are taking a tsp a day there are 96 servings.

How long will my bottle last?

If your bottle is unopened there is a sticker that can be found on the bottom of your bottle with an expiration date. Please keep all unopened bottles in a cool dry place like your pantry. If your bottle has been opened it must be kept refrigerated and will be good for two months after opening (this has been verified via lab testing for ultimate safety)

How is elderberry and honey tonic different from other elderberry products for sale?

Where do we begin? So many positive differences.

- Packaging and price point: Most main stream brands of elderberry products are outrageously expensive. Some of them as much as $30 for a small 4 oz size. We believe that everyone should have the ability to enjoy elderberry so we have priced ours at $29.99 for a large, family size of 16 oz.

- Glass never plastic: We care about your health and the health of our planet so we bottle our elderberry in glass instead of plastic. It’s more expensive for us, but you are worth it.

- No Fillers, thickeners, or yucky preservatives: You will never find ingredients like malic acid, xantham gum or high fructose corn syrup in our elderberry.

- No Refined Sugar/Naturally Sweetened: Mainstream elderberry products use cane sugar (and a lot of it) to sweeten their products. Refined sugar has been shown to lower your immune system. In fact, “This nutrition study shows that it takes only 75 grams of sugar to weaken the immune system. And once the white blood cells are affected, it's thought that the immune system is lowered for about 5 hours after.” This is why we refuse to use this cheaper sweetener. We naturally sweeten our elderberry with rose hips and hibiscus which allows us to use only a small amount of raw unfiltered honey. Even the elderberry products that use honey instead of sugar use a very large amount of honey (sometimes up to half the container of elderberry) to cover the bitter taste of elderberries. Our synergistic propriety herbal blend naturally sweetens and covers the bitterness of the berries so we can use a lower honey content and therefore lower carbs/blood sugar impact.

- Potency: Many elderberry makers don’t know the potency of their elderberry product, luckily we do! When you take a tbsp of our elderberry tonic you are getting 2,000 mg of elderberry goodness!

- Testing and Food Safety:Since elderberry is a food product you want to consume only those that have been properly tested and are regulated by governing authorities. We take food safety incredibly serious and we recommend that you only buy products that are legally produced and regulated, like ours.

- Unique Herbal Blend of 12 herbs, roots and spices: Most elderberry products contain four herbal properties: elderberries, cinnamon, ginger and cloves. We have taken the traditional recipe and improved upon it by adding a powerful synergistic herbal blend that gives you ultimate support. The additional herbs that we include in our tonic are: turmeric, echinacea, garlic, astragalus, elderflowers, hibiscus, rosehips and black pepper so you can be sure your body is absorbing all of that herbal goodness.

Elderberry Tonic DIY Dry kits:

How to use alternative sweeteners?

The instructions on the back of the dry kit suggest to add ½- 1 cup raw honey to your room temperature tonic . Some alternative sweeteners measure cup-for-cup like sugar but others can be sweeter than sugar, so you might use less. A wonderful conversion chart for alternative low carb and vegan sweeteners, can be found here.

How do I store my finished elderberry tonic after I make it?

You will need to store your freshly made tonic in the fridge in a clean jar (mason jars work great). Consume tonic within 2 months, and always keep refrigerated.

Can I make individual cups of tea with the dry kit?

Yes of course! If you don’t want to use the whole bag to make 32 oz of elderberry tonic you can simply scoop out a tbsp of the herbs and steep them in 8 oz of hot water, covered for 10-15 minutes and the strain and add sweetener of choice.

Elderberry Tincture:

How is the tincture different from the tonic?

The tincture is the perfect size for you to take on your travels. It does not require refrigeration, even once open due to the shelf stability of the vegetable glycerin. It’s 2 oz size is allowed as a carry-on for airplanes so it’s perfect to take with you while flying. It does not have the 12 herbs that our elderberry tonic has. It is a strong mixture of elderberries and glycerin, that’s the only two ingredients. When we are flying we usually take a dropper full every three hours.
